DEPUTY GENERAL COUNSEL, BNY MELLON INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT
John Pak is Deputy General Counsel, Investment Management, of BNY Mellon and serves as Chief Legal Officer of BNY Mellon Investment Management, which includes the company’s asset management and wealth management businesses. Prior to taking on this role in August 2014, he served as Chief Legal Officer of The Dreyfus Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BNY Mellon.
As Chief Legal Officer of Investment Management, John oversees all legal, regulatory and litigation matters involving BNY Mellon Investment Management and its global investment, distribution and operating companies. He is a member of Investment Management’s Executive Committee, the Legal Department’s Senior Staff, and BNY Mellon’s Operating Committee.
Before joining BNY Mellon in August 2012, John was a Managing Director at Deutsche Bank for seven years and served as Deputy Global Head of Deutsche Asset Management Legal and Regional Head of Deutsche Asset Management Americas Legal, supporting Deutsche Bank’s global institutional, retail, insurance and alternatives asset management businesses.
From April 1999 to March 2005, he was Executive Director at Morgan Stanley and Head of Legal for Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s U.S. Institutional and U.S. Intermediary Businesses. John began his investment management legal career as a senior associate in the Investment Management Department of Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
John holds a B.A. in English and Philosophy from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from Cornell Law School.
